LangFlow
An open-source visual IDE for building and serving AI flows and agents.
Components for models, prompts, vector stores and tools connect on a canvas, test in the Playground and run through an API or as an MCP server.
AI & agents
LangFlow is a visual builder where you drag components into a flow and serve it as an API; LangChain is the code framework you would otherwise write the same pipeline in.

Everything is expressed in Python or TypeScript, reviewed and tested like any other code, and deployed with your application.
| Aspect | LangFlow | LangChain |
|---|---|---|
| Interface | Drag-and-drop canvas | Code |
| Speed to prototype | Very fast | Fast for developers |
| Version control | Exported JSON flows | Normal source code |
| Custom logic | Custom Python components | Anything you can code |
| Best for | Prototypes, demos, mixed teams | Production code and complex logic |
LangFlow is a visual IDE: you drag components onto a canvas, connect them into a flow, test it in the Playground and serve it as an API. LangChain is a code framework where you write the same models, prompts, retrievers and agents in Python or TypeScript.
No, but it helps. LangFlow's components map to familiar ideas such as models, prompts, vector stores, retrievers, tools and agents, and knowing them makes flows easier to design and debug. Beginners can start visually and learn the concepts as they go.
For fast prototypes and demos, for teams where product managers or analysts want to see and adjust the flow, for testing ideas in the Playground before writing code, and for serving a working flow as an API or MCP server quickly.
When the logic is complex or business-critical, when you need unit tests, code review, strict error handling and performance tuning, or when the AI feature lives inside an existing codebase and deployment pipeline.
LangFlow serves every flow through its API, so an app sends input and receives the output, with tweaks to change component settings per call; flows can also be exposed as MCP tools. LangChain code is deployed inside your own service and exposed however you like, for example as an API route.
LangFlow flows are stored in LangFlow and can be exported as JSON, which you can commit to Git, though diffs are harder to review. LangChain code lives in normal source files with readable diffs, pull requests and history.
In LangFlow you test interactively in the Playground and inspect each component's output. With LangChain you write unit tests for chains and tools, mock models, and run dataset evaluations in LangSmith in CI.
LangFlow supports custom components written in Python with typed inputs and outputs, which then appear on the canvas. In LangChain you simply write the function or class you need.
LangFlow shows inputs and outputs per component on the canvas, which is intuitive for small flows. LangChain debugging uses your IDE plus LangSmith traces, which scale better for large, nested agents.
LangChain code gives full control over concurrency, caching, retries, streaming and resource use. LangFlow adds the flow engine as a layer and exposes many settings, but fine-grained performance tuning is easier in code.
