Subjective questions 30

1What is Langflow?Asked almost every time

Langflow is an open-source, Python-based visual builder for AI applications. You drag components (inputs, prompts, models, retrievers, tools, agents, outputs) onto a canvas and connect their ports to form a flow, test it in the Playground, then run it through an API or expose it as an MCP tool. It speeds up prototyping and lets non-developers take part.

2How do you build a RAG chatbot in Langflow?Asked almost every time

Create an ingestion flow: a file or URL loader, a text splitter, an embedding model and a vector store component. Then a chat flow: Chat Input, a vector store search for the question, a Prompt component with {context} and {question} variables, a language model component and Chat Output. Test it in the Playground and check what each component returned.

3How does Langflow compare with writing LangChain code?Asked almost every time

Langflow is a visual builder: fast to prototype, easy to show non-developers and good for iterating on prompts and wiring. Code is better for complex control flow, version control and review, tests and fine-grained performance work. Many teams prototype in Langflow and either serve the flow via API or rewrite critical paths in code.

4How do you version and review Langflow flows?Asked almost every time

Export flows as JSON and commit them to Git, review diffs of prompts and settings, keep separate environments (dev, staging, prod) with their own variables, and import or deploy flows through CI rather than editing production by hand.

5How do you call a Langflow flow from your application?Very often asked

Each flow has an API endpoint (the run endpoint with the flow ID). Send the input in a POST request with an API key, and optionally tweaks to override component settings per request, such as the model or temperature. The API pane in Langflow generates ready-made cURL, Python and JavaScript snippets.

6What are tweaks?Very often asked

Per-request overrides of component parameters, keyed by component ID, passed with the API call. They let one flow serve different settings, such as a different system prompt, model or collection name, without editing the flow.

7How do you build an agent in Langflow?Very often asked

Use the Agent component, choose its model, give it instructions, and connect tool components to its tools input: web search, a calculator, API Request, or even other flows used as tools. The agent decides which tools to call. Test it in the Playground to see each tool call.

8How do you take a Langflow project to production?Very often asked

Run Langflow yourself with Docker or Kubernetes, or a managed host, backed by PostgreSQL instead of the default SQLite. Store keys as global variables or environment variables, export flows as JSON into Git, protect the API with keys, add tracing (LangSmith, Langfuse) and test the flow through the API with realistic inputs.

9What are components in Langflow?Very often asked

Building blocks on the canvas, each wrapping one piece of logic: inputs and outputs, prompts, models, embeddings, vector stores, tools, agents and helpers. They have typed ports, so only compatible outputs connect to inputs, and each exposes settings you can edit or override with tweaks.

10How do global variables work?Very often asked

They store values such as API keys or shared settings once and reference them from many components. Credential-type variables are encrypted and hidden in the UI; they can also be loaded from environment variables when Langflow starts.

11How do you keep a session's chat history in Langflow?Very often asked

Chat components store messages per session_id, and a Message History (memory) component retrieves recent messages for the prompt. Pass a stable session_id in API calls so each user's conversation stays separate.

12How do you scale Langflow in production?Very often asked

Run it as a stateless backend behind a load balancer with an external PostgreSQL database, set up proper authentication, run the backend-only mode for APIs, monitor latency and errors, and scale model and vector-store services separately since they are usually the bottleneck.

13How do you add authentication to the Langflow API?Very often asked

Disable auto-login in production, create users and API keys, and require the x-api-key header on requests. Put the server behind HTTPS and your own gateway if public clients call it.

14What is the Playground used for?Often asked

Running a flow interactively in a chat view, seeing the messages, and inspecting each component's inputs and outputs, so you can debug a flow before calling it from code.

15How do you write a custom component?Often asked

Create a Python class that extends Langflow's Component, declare its inputs and outputs, and implement the method that produces the output. It appears in the sidebar like built-in components and can call any Python library.

16How can Langflow work with MCP?Often asked

Langflow can act as an MCP server, exposing flows as tools to MCP clients such as Claude Desktop or Cursor, and as an MCP client, using tools from external MCP servers inside its agents through the MCP Tools component.

17When would you choose code (LangGraph) over Langflow?Often asked

When the logic has complex state, branching and loops, needs detailed unit tests, fine control of retries and concurrency, or many engineers editing it at once. Teams often prototype in Langflow and move the core into code as it matures.

18What is the difference between the Agent component and a plain chain flow?Often asked

A chain flow runs the same components in the same order each time. The Agent component lets the model decide which connected tools to call and when, looping until it answers, so it suits open-ended tasks but is less predictable.

19How do you ingest documents into a vector store in Langflow?Often asked

Build an ingestion flow: File or Directory loader, a text splitter, an embeddings component and a vector store component. Run it once (or on a schedule) to populate the store; a separate query flow retrieves from it for answers.

20How do you debug a misbehaving flow?Often asked

Run components one at a time and inspect their outputs, check the Playground logs and message history, verify that prompt variables are filled, lower temperature to reproduce issues, and send traces to LangSmith or Langfuse for detail.

21How do you stream responses from a Langflow API call?Often asked

Call the run endpoint with streaming enabled; the server sends events as tokens are generated, which a client can render progressively.

22What are starter templates and why use them?Often asked

Ready-made flows (basic prompting, RAG, agents and more) you can open and adapt. They show recommended wiring and save time, but you should review their prompts, models and settings before production.

23How do you share a flow with non-technical users?Often asked

Use the Playground or the shareable embedded chat widget, or call the flow from your own app via the API. Keep settings locked and secrets in global variables so viewers cannot see keys.

24How do you handle secrets in Langflow?Sometimes asked

Create global variables of type Credential (or load them from environment variables) and reference them in component fields, so keys are not typed into components or saved into exported flows.

25What are the risks of exporting flows?Sometimes asked

An exported JSON can contain API keys if they were typed directly into components, and it captures component versions that may change. Use credential variables and review exports before committing.

26How do you route messages to different branches?Sometimes asked

Use logic components such as If-Else (conditional router) to compare a value with rules, or a model to classify the input first, then send it down the matching branch to different prompts, tools or flows.

27How do you monitor flows in production?Sometimes asked

Connect a tracing integration such as LangSmith or Langfuse through environment variables, log API calls, and track success rate, latency per component and answer quality on a test set.

28How do you integrate Langflow with observability tools?Sometimes asked

Set the environment variables for LangSmith, Langfuse or similar, and Langflow sends traces of each run, including component inputs, outputs, latency and tokens.

29How are custom components shared across a team?Sometimes asked

Store their Python files in a shared directory or package, point LANGFLOW_COMPONENTS_PATH at it, and they appear in the sidebar for everyone using that server.

30What should you check before upgrading Langflow?Sometimes asked

Read the release notes, back up the database and exported flows, test flows in a staging instance (components can change), and pin the version in your deployment.
