What you will learn
  1. SWE-bench measures a single patch, not whether an agent calls tools correctly across a ten-step session.
  2. LangGraph's documented tool-call loop lets you replay and audit every call a candidate model makes.
  3. LangSmith's evaluate() scores whole trajectories while aevaluate() scores a single node asynchronously.
  4. Node-level tool-selection checks catch wrong arguments that a passing trajectory can hide.
  5. LangSmith Engine, n8n scheduling, and LangFlow prototyping turn a one-off test into a nightly trust gate.

The problem: a model that codes beautifully and still breaks production

A platform team at a mid-size fintech in Bengaluru was paying for dozens of Claude Code seats every month, and the finance team wanted that line item gone. Someone on the team had read the usual roundup of local coding models, saw a 27B-class model land within a few points of the frontier on SWE-bench Verified, and proposed flipping the team's default coding agent over to it.

The single-file bug fixes looked fine in a quick demo, so the swap shipped quietly on a Friday. During the following week's routine multi-file refactor, the agent's seventh tool call in the session passed a malformed argument to a file-write tool, silently truncating a config file instead of editing it, and nobody noticed until a teammate's unrelated pull request failed CI two days later.
