What you will learn
  1. A graph makes an agent's control flow explicit instead of hiding it in a prompt.
  2. Checkpointers persist state after every step, enabling resume and time travel.
  3. Interrupts let a human approve a step before the graph continues.

When a simple agent loop is not enough

A single agent loop is fine for chat. Real workflows need more: retry one step, branch on a classifier, wait for a manager's approval, or resume tomorrow after a deploy. LangGraph models that as a graph of nodes sharing one state object.

Because the flow is code rather than prompt, you can unit-test each node, draw the graph, and reason about every path the agent can take.
