What you will learn
- node:test and node --watch cover many testing and dev-loop needs.
- fetch, AbortSignal.timeout and web streams are global.
- Current LTS releases can run TypeScript by stripping types.
Node grew a standard library
For years a Node project began with installing a test runner, a file watcher, an HTTP client and dotenv. Recent releases build in equivalents for many of those, which means fewer dependencies to audit and update.
Fewer dependencies also means faster installs, smaller containers and a smaller supply-chain attack surface.
